For my next analysis I am going to look at two different magazine covers advertising the same film.
The similarities between the two covers include the main image being the same, the masthead being placed at the top of the magazine (but not the very top), the next largest text (‘Sherlock Holmes’) being an anchor for the main image and puffs/taglines used around the main image to advertise the main film and also other content inside the magazine.
However, when we look at the differences between them we can see that the way all of the text is positioned is different (besides the masthead). This is simply because the magazines have gone for different layouts and a different image of Robert Downey Jr. Therefore, the taglines (etc.) have to be placed in different places on the cover to be the most effective.
In conclusion I can see that there are different ways of advertising the same film. Therefore, there is not one way to advertise something and different ideas can work well and be effective in different ways.
