Media Institutions Suitable For My Product // Research

After choosing my genre, finishing my research and deciding my BBFC Certificate I felt as though I should look into different media institutions and see which ones would be suitable for my trailer.

The 'Big 6' dominate the film industry as they are Hollywood Conglomerates and have a massive budget along with a vast amount of facilities, locations and actors (marquee names) to choose from. They distribute to a tent pole audience, gain a large profit and are more likely to be successful. In contrast to this British Independent companies also produce successful films even though they are aiming at niche audiences and have lower budgets and actors who are less well known.

My trailer easily suits the British Independent film company category as my budget and facilities are smaller and so more like an Independent film would be. The following companies are ones which I feel are most suitable for my trailer;

Working Title

Who are they? A British film company that produces feature films and TV productions.
- Owned by Universal Studios (a Hollywood Conglomerate), therefore it can sometimes produce high tech, high budget films.
Perhaps a more suitable company to my trailer is Working Title's subsidiary company, called WT2. It was launched in 1999 as Working Title was becoming so successful. It is run by Natascha Wharton and produces lots of films including 'Shaun Of The Dead'.

Warp X

Who are they? A British Independent film company which founded in 2005 and produces feature films.
- Their limited budget restricts them to the 'social-realism' genre which I believe my trailer could be categorised into as it shows regular people in regular locations. As well as this my budget is limited and therefore I would only be able to distribute my trailer to a niche audience (which Warp X does).
- Warp X is funded by several distributors. This is something that I would have to consider doing if I was actually going to distribute my product and wanted it to get to as much of my target audience as possible.
